Meanwhile in Sydney: Glebe Markets

Explore the real Sydney – A Saturday at Glebe Markets

One thing I’ve particularly enjoyed about living in Sydney were the numerous weekend markets. Every weekend many of Sydney’s neighborhoods host a market for the local communities. Besides the famous Rocks Markets which are very popular amongst tourists and expats I really enjoyed hanging out at the Glebe Markets in Sydney’s Inner West. To be honest I’ve never really considered myself a big markets-fan. Actually it was always more my girlfriend that dragged me along to markets in pretty much every city we visited. However, in Sydney it was different. Sure, you can still find heaps of useless trash at the markets there but the vibe is quite different. First of all, between all the wooden iphone cases, half-funny print tees, 5-Dollar sunnies and goth accessories, Sydney markets are a popular platform for young and aspiring local artists and designers. From Beautifully handcrafted goods & jewelry over carefully drawn post cards, paintings as well as creative decorations to actually quite cool clothes Glebe Markets have it all. What really got me however, was the relaxed and laid back atmosphere, with some amazing singer/songwriters providing pleasant background music and a great selection of street food, coffee and sweets stands looking after the culinary well-being of the visitors. So if you ever visit the Australian metropole on a weekend, make sure to go and chill at one of the local markets for a couple of hours. Like I said my favorite ones were the Glebe Markets, but also the Rocks Markets or Paddington Markets are pretty cool and worth checking out!
