Wine Bar at Merkur Hoher Markt – A new place-to-be for wine lovers in Vienna’s inner city
Attention Gourmets! A new wine bar, located on the second floor of the Merkur Flagship Stores at Hoher Markt has opened its doors to public. In a pleasant atmosphere that combines fancy and rustic wine lovers can choose from a assortment of 1200 wines from all over the world. Wines are cooled down to drinking temperature within five minutes and of course there are also monthly changing wines to taste for customers. In order to provide a full gourmet experience, the new Wine Bar at Merkur Hoher Markt offers its customers a selection of culinary indulgences from exquisite antipasti like Salmon Carpaccio to a daily changing warm dish.
After an extensive lunch with the Missus at Wine Bar at Hoher Markt, I can only recommend this culinary experience. While the missus had a Salmon Carpaccio accompanied by a fruste white wine by the Lower Austrian vinter Salomon Undhof, I ordered a game stew, together with a glass of “Kirschgarten” (translated literally to “cherry garden”), a very round and full red wine by the by Umathum, a well known winery from Burgenland. We were both very satisfied with our wine choices as well as with our meals, and finally even got surprised with a little treat from the cheese trolley for dessert. Thus I’d say that the Wine Bar at Hoher Markt is definitely a very welcome alternative to other Viennese Wine Stores like for instance Wein & Co.
For all of you who have acquired a taste now, the Wine Bar at Merkur Hoher Markt is open Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 22:00 and on Saturdays from 08:30 to 18:30.
