Viennese Ball Season with Peek & Cloppenburg

Vienna’s famous and glamorous Ball Season has just begun. Together with my friends from Peek & Cloppenburg I’ve put together some tips to get your “Black Tie” Drescode on point.

1. Black Tie calls for a smoking and there’s no way around it. So if you like going to balls it’s about time to invest in a well fitting smoking. You’ll have it for ages and it will never go out of style. 
2. Go for a smoking in black or night blue. Make sure it fits perfectly. It’s a classic piece of clothing so it should neither be to loose nor to slim. Also pay attention to length of the sleeves of the blazer as well as the length of the pants. If they don’t fit properly, go to a tailor and have them adjusted.
3. With the Smoking you want to wear a plain white smoking shirt with wing collar.
4. If the Dresscode says “Black Tie” wear a black bow tie. Never wear a normal tie to a ball.
5. When it comes to shoes go for a pair of polished leather oxfords or patent leather shoes.

Location: Grand Ferdinand – The Hotel of Ball Enthusiasts

All pictures were taken at the magnificent Grand Ferdinand Hotel in Vienna. From the luxurious Grand Suite we went for an aperitif at the Grand Etage Rooftop Bar with a spectacular view over the roofs of Vienna’s Inner City. But the hotel also offers something for the culinary desires of Ball enthusiasts. At the hotel restaurant Gulasch & Champagne you can now get a special ball menu with multiple courses as the perfect preparation for a wonderful ball night.
