quattro Roadtrip with the new Audi Q5 – Wellness & Ice Art in the Alps
The other week I went on a little roadtrip with Audi Austria once again. In the new Audi Q5 we hit the road to the Alps in Salzburg to get a little break from the at times hectic urban life in Vienna.
Driving comfort and fun in the new Audi Q5
For me as a big car enthusiast the roadtrip also offered an opportunity to take the new Audi Q5 for a spin. Besides its majestic yet dynamic design, the powerful quattro-engine, an adaptive air suspension damping control as well as the spacious inner room make steering the wheel of the Q5 a true pleasure. I also really liked the virtual cockpit feature which shows you all the relevant information for the driver, like speed, r.p.m. as well as navigation system on a 12,3 Inch color screen just behind the steering wheel and makes checking directions and roadmaps so much more convenient than with common navigation systems.
Relaxing at the Tauern Spa Wellness and Alpine Resort
Our first stop was the Tauern Spa Wellness and Alpine resort. We arrived to beautiful weather with a lot of snow and bright sunshine. From the king size bed in our suite we had a perfect view on the surrounding alps. Nevertheless the absolute highlight of the Tauern Spa hotel is the hotel spa on the top level of the hotel which is exclusively accessible for guests. Whether you want to sweat at the Sauna and enjoy the view on the alps, relax with a good book at the open fireplace at the chillout lounge or go for a swim in the panorama infinity outdoor-pool, the Tauern Spa offers a real wellness paradise, which we fell for right away. After a lot of relaxing and enjoying the beautiful ambience we ended the day with a romantic dinner at the hotel restaurant and a drink at the piano bar.
Ice Camp on Kitzsteinhorn – Visiting Austria’s most beautiful Igloo
On day two of our quattro roadtrip we got up early to get up to the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, were we got a little tour through the legendary Ice Camp presented by Audi quattro. And folks let me tell you, this experience was truely impressive. A view facts about the Ice Camp will help you understand why:
Located at a hight of 2600m the Ice Camp stretches out over an area of 5000 square meters. Three gigantic Iglus with 12m diameter each host a stunning world of ice, snow and art and a unique experience for all senses. Every year from January to April the ice camp opens its doors to visitors from all around the world. The outer shell of the Igloos is made of 3500 cubic metres of snow while the interior consisting out of a massive ice bar, an ice art installation running by the theme of “Frozen Forest” this year, and a Audi Showroom with an ice ramp are made out of 60 tons of ice, which is cut out from a nearby mountain lake and then formed and sculpted by renown ice artists. Audio visual effects provide for an all-round experience for all senses. Furthermore a food court as well as a panorama chill out sundeck with music takes care of the well-being of guests.
After all these stunning impressions hunger set and so we went even further up the mountain for a lunch at Salzburgs most highly situated restaurant the Gipfelrestaurant at Kitzsteinhorn. There I enjoyed a delightful Wiener Schnitzel with an extensive desert at a height of 3029 meters. The only downside was, that the thick fog stole a bit of the breathtaking panoramic view you usually have from up there. Nevertheless this day really offered some memorable and awesome impressions that I can warmly recommend to everyone who plans to spend some time in the region.
